Description
The yamas and niyamas are the guiding principles that are the basis of hatha and raja yoga. Yogi Amrit Desai interprets these powerful guidelines for daily conscious living to assist us in identifying and eliminating unconscious conflicts and blockages that serve as obstacles in our spiritual path and prevent us from achieving balance.
The yamas and niyamas are the first two limbs of the eightfold yogic path as taught by Patanjali, the first to record yogic practices circa 200 B.C. Yogi Desai interprets these guidelines and explains that the purpose of the yamas and niyamas is to eliminate disturbances and conflicts that come from both within and without. The science of yoga is applied in our lives through the examination of our unconscious patterns, beliefs and a behaviors and their consequences. Observing the disciplines Patanjali outlines allows us to see and accept ourselves where we are now while simultaneously bringing us into alignment with our intentions. Sincere practice of the yamas and niyamas will eventually remove the obstacles that veil the spirit within.
